Now that we’re home most of the time, it seems like there are a lot more chores to be done. Whether it’s all the dishes that come with three meals a day at home or the clutter that accumulates when your office, school, and gym are in the house, it feels like we are still cleaning up. And all of this work can get a little boring and repetitive. But we’ve found seven great ways to make those daily chores fun.

Combine household chores with entertainment

One of the easiest ways to turn a mundane task into something you look forward to is to combine it with something you love. Folding that mountain of laundry will go a lot faster if you put on your favorite film while you work.

Or turn everyday household chores into a night of dance by putting on your favorite upbeat playlist while you dust, mop, and tidy up. And to pass the time while doing the dishes and cleaning the kitchen, turn on your favorite podcast or audiobook to distract yourself.

Upgrade your cleaning tools

If you have some really awesome cleaning tools, you’ll be a lot happier using them. And with the right products, you can often fix what you don’t like about housework in the first place.

Hate to have dry hands while doing the dishes? Get yourself a good pair of rubber gloves and save your life. But don’t stop there. Switch to a really good dish rack, get a good scrub brush and some super soft tea towels and suddenly a boring chore like washing dishes will be a little more luxurious.

Embrace technology for household chores

We already use dishwashers and washing machines to lighten some of the household chores. Why not embrace new technologies to help reduce your workload even further?

Rediscover your Saturday mornings by letting an autonomous lawn mower keep your lawn perfectly mowed. You can also save hours every week by investing in a robot vacuum cleaner. It will clean your floors so you can spend that time doing something more fun.

Change your cleaning style

To make cleaning seem less of a chore, find a style that works for you. If you’re the always-on-the-go type, a 10-minute daily cleaning burst will keep your home always tidy. And it will pass so quickly that it won’t even seem like work.

Or maybe you’d rather spend an entire morning deep cleaning so you can enjoy the rest of your chore-free week. Choose whatever works for you, and you’ll feel a lot less stressed about household chores.

Give yourself a reward

Sometimes you just need a little extra motivation to take on those boring household chores. Set a cleanup goal and reward yourself when you finish it. Whether it’s your favorite snack, a little chill out, or a trip to your favorite park, the right reward will make you forget about the task at hand.

Involve the whole family

You know the saying “a lot of hands do light work”. And that couldn’t be truer than when it comes to housework. There are two ways to distribute household chores:

  • Divide & Conquer – make a list of all the tasks to be accomplished and distribute them among the members of your family. Give each person a task and see who can be the first to complete. The winner can assign the following tasks.
  • Get Together – Attack each task as a group to get it through faster. If the whole family works together to clean the kitchen, you’ll get the job done in record time. When the job is done, choose a fun activity that you can all do together as the prize.

To help keep everyone motivated, try making it a game or giving away some fun rewards.

Praise him

There is nothing wrong with getting a little help when you need it. If you can afford it and it improves your stress or mental health levels, hire a cleaning person. The time you save is often well worth it for busy families.

You can also hire someone to help you with a few specific tasks to reduce your workload and eliminate the tasks you like the least. Hire a neighborhood kid to mow the lawn or rake the leaves. Or try a food delivery service to help you with the burden of weekly shopping and meal planning.

Housekeeping should be done, but it shouldn’t be a chore! Try these seven ways to make housework more fun.
