There has also been some progress on the Disney More reboot of Alone at home, which once again puts the film in everyone’s mind. The third reason? The film was one of the subjects of the new Netflix series, The films that made us. And in the news that may surprise some longtime Alone at home fans, which was revealed in The films that made us, it turns out that the iconic house from the movie was not used for the interiors.
In fact, the interiors they filmed in were built in a high school gymnasium. Apparently, the reason is because the house was just too small for a film crew to work on it properly.
Additionally, the high school swimming pool was used to film the interior shots where the basement was flooded in the Murphy house. The film crew needed to use a lot of water to shoot the scenes, so the swimming pool proved to be perfectly convenient for them.
It just shows the amount of ingenuity and creativity that goes into making movies and the illusions that go with it. While we don’t always understand the tricks that are up the sleeves of the filmmakers, it’s definitely worth celebrating. And if you’re upset that the house wasn’t real, just remember that it wasn’t all fake. Only the interiors were composed. The actual exterior shots of the house were all real and shot at the physical location of the house.
