“The Deep House” seems to be treading on similar ground to “Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum” and “Grave Encounters”, where certain influencers or filmmakers enter a space with bad energy and pay a brutal price. It is most often seen in found horror footage, like the doomed documentary team that set out to find Blair Witch, or the students looking to solve the Col Dyatlov mystery in “Devil’s Pass.” If there’s one thing the horror genre wants you to do, it’s mind your own business; leave the spooky house unexplored, leave the mysterious relic unopened, or – as Clive Barker’s priest puts it – “Your suffering will be legendary.”
